Statue of Liberty Is In New Jersey, Not New York, and Originally A Black Woman

The Statue of Liberty is well known by most to be located in New York, but due to state borders it's actually located in New Jersey. The statue is well over the state line and is definitely in New Jersey. New York just adopted Lady Liberty as it's own.

The original Statue of Liberty was a African American slave woman with chains on her arms and feet. The statue was a gift from the French symbolizing the freedom of slaves.

Of course America didn't want a giant statue of a black female slave, so her distinct African face was changed and her chains were removed. You can still see a piece of the chain around the ankles of the current statue.
Also the statue was originally the color of copper or pennies (golden brown) to reflect a African skin tone. Weather and oxidation caused the color to change to the greenish blue we see today.  **You can make 30 Million pennies with all the copper used to make the statue.
